Remembrance Projects

Here is a list of Community Remembrance Projects throughout the United States.

From 1878 to 1955, there were approximately 6600 documented lynchings in the U.S..

These and other communities have begun their Remembrance Projects. There are many others who have done research or commemoration on local lynchings and are involved in community learning and advocacy projects but they are not listed here. To find out more about what’s happening in your area, just search Lynching Memorials and your state name. Or contact your community branch of the NAACP or any other racial justice or human rights organization in your community or a neighboring community. If that doesn’t work, you may contact some of the projects listed here and ask them how to start.
