About the purpose
of this book

There are many more Reconcilers than Haters in this country. I hope to inspire others to show up and prove it. I would like to say to others, together we can accomplish the following:

  • Improve how we tell Public History in Our Community. So that this history includes everyone.

  • Explore what happens if we continue to have two different versions of American History.

  • Teach the lessons and stories which show that past racial violence in the U.S. is linked to modern day structural racism.

  • Acknowledge the totality of what specific racial violence happened in the U.S. and how it killed, terrorized and harmed Black Americans after the civil war.

  • Ask the descendants of those who have been harmed what’s needed to heal and repair the past violence and current discrimination.

  • Gain increased awareness among the general public about the many Community Remembrance Projects across the country, particularly in the South. These projects tell the individual stories of the over 4500 individuals who were lynched in America from 1877-1954.

  • Increase and amplify each states community remembrance project participation and connections. Memorialize the victims. Repair the damage.

  • Improve ideas and highlight entry points for people who are seeking participation in racial healing.

  • Show people where and how they can act to desegregate, multiracialize and integrate their lives and the groups and systems where they live and work.

  • Heal racial hatred and violence, one story at a time.

  • Lead people to get involved, join and participate in Coming to the Table and other racial justice groups.

  • Facilitate an increase in anti racist education classes.

  • Improve and correct and grow how we tell public history so it includes everyone.
